The document 'Adaptus Bluetooth Imagers' describes in detail how to connect a Bluetooth scanner directly to the Bluetooth adapter of a host or PDA without using a charge and communication base. Refer to chapter 4, 'Connecting to third party devices' of this document.

When a scanner is connected directly to a host usually a Bluetooth serial connection is established. This requires an application to read from this Bluetooth serial port and retrieve the scanned barcode data. There are some generic wedge applications that can send data received on a serial port to the keyboard buffer. In this case the behavior is equivalent to a keyboard wedge connection, and the data can be received in all application that allow keyboard data.

• For a Windows PC host download the wedge application KeyComm.
• For a PDA download the wedge application BlueWedge. This is not a Honeywell Software tool and therefore no support is provided by Honeywell.

Note: Xenon 1902, Granit 1911i, Granit 1981i, Voyager 1452g and Voyager 1602g support besides the BT SPP protocol, the BT HID-keyboard mode, to retrieve scan data as keyboard without a wedge software utility. The respective product User Guides provide a barcode to select this mode.

Also, even if a connection can be made without using the base, the scanner will still need the base for charging, therefore a connection can't be made without having the base, as it turns in charging base only after the connection is done.
